The House of Representatives concludes its inaugural Electoral Act review meeting and prepares for a joint conference with the Senate.
The House of Representatives has concluded the inaugural meeting of the 10th House Committee on the Review and Harmonisation of the Electoral Act, marking a key step in the ongoing effort to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework.
The meeting focused on setting priorities for the committee’s assignment, which includes reviewing existing provisions of the Electoral Act and identifying areas requiring harmonisation to improve clarity, efficiency, and credibility in the electoral process.
Members also discussed strategies for aligning legislative positions between both chambers of the National Assembly.
Following the conclusion of the meeting, the committee confirmed plans to engage with its Senate counterparts at a conference scheduled for the next day. The engagement is expected to foster collaboration, resolve differences, and ensure a unified legislative approach to proposed amendments to the Electoral Act.
The committee is chaired by Honourable Bayo Balogun (Lagos, APC). Other members include Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase (Plateau, APC), Hon. Fred Agbedi (Bayelsa, PDP), Hon. Sada Soli (Katsina, APC), Hon. Ahmadu Jaha (Borno, APC), Hon. Igariwey Iduma Enwo (Ebonyi, APC), Hon. Saidu Musa Abdullahi (Niger, APC), Hon. Dr. Zainab Gimba (Borno, APC), Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante (Rivers, PDP), Hon. James Abiodun Faleke (Lagos, APC), Hon. Paschal Agbodike (Anambra, APGA), and Hon. Obi Aguocha (Abia, LP).
