The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has approved the appointment of key officials to oversee the Abia State Library Board, marking a step toward strengthening the state’s knowledge and educational infrastructure.
According to an official government announcement, Mr. Otah Kalu has been named Chairman of the board, while Dr. Oluchi Iche Kalu will serve as the Chief Librarian. Other members appointed to the board include Hon. Chinyere Amala and Dr. Ugochi C. Ekenna.
The newly appointed board members are scheduled to be formally inaugurated on Thursday, May 7, 2026. The ceremony will take place at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, with proceedings set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Appointees have been directed to arrive early and be seated ahead of the governor’s arrival.
The appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to enhancing literacy, improving library services, and promoting educational development across Abia State. Stakeholders expect the new board to play a vital role in modernizing library operations and expanding access to information for residents.
