Returning Power to the North After One Term Is Unpatriotic – Fani-Kayode, Reno Omokri

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and political commentator Reno Omokri have publicly declared their support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that power should remain in Southern Nigeria in the interest of national unity and political stability.

In a joint statement, the duo argued that Nigeria’s political balance depends on the continued rotation of power between the North and South, a principle they described as one of the foundations of the country’s Fourth Republic since 1999. According to them, the North already completed its eight-year tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari, making it necessary for the South to complete its own turn through two full terms.

They maintained that allowing power to return to the North after only one term under President Tinubu would undermine the spirit of fairness, equity, and political understanding that has helped sustain democratic stability in Nigeria.

Fani-Kayode and Omokri further praised Tinubu’s administration for what they described as economic and infrastructural progress recorded within the last three years. They cited improvements in GDP growth, trade surpluses, and increased contributions to the national economy as signs that the current administration is on track toward long-term economic transformation.

The statement also highlighted major infrastructure projects initiated under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the Trans-Saharan Road project, which they said are aimed at improving national connectivity and economic integration across regions.

Drawing comparisons with Switzerland’s long-standing power-sharing model, the two political figures noted that balanced leadership arrangements have historically helped multiethnic societies maintain peace and stability. They urged Nigerians across political, ethnic, and religious divides to support Tinubu’s administration and rally behind his potential 2027 candidacy.

According to the statement, re-electing President Tinubu would help Nigeria achieve its ambition of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2031 while sustaining ongoing economic reforms and national development initiatives.
