The Abia State Government has announced plans to officially launch its ambitious 25-Year Development Plan, a far-reaching policy framework designed to guide the state’s growth and transformation over the next quarter-century.
The unveiling will be performed by Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Umuahia, and is expected to attract a wide range of stakeholders from both public and private sectors.
According to the government, the long-term development blueprint is one of the most significant legacy initiatives of the current administration. It was approved following deliberations at a State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Umuahia and chaired by Governor Otti.

These include representatives of UNDP, PIND, PACE, PwC, AGEAC, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, student organizations, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and other critical stakeholders across the state.
A Visionary Roadmap for Abia’s Future
The 25-Year Development Plan provides a structured and deliberate roadmap aimed at driving Abia State’s socio-economic advancement well into the mid-21st century. It presents a comprehensive vision focused on economic resilience, infrastructural development, social inclusion, and long-term generational security.
The plan is built around six strategic pillars, namely:
People and resources

Sustainable economy
Social infrastructure and inclusion
Governance and reform
Cross-sector collaboration
Economic Growth, Infrastructure, and Governance Reform
When fully implemented, the development plan is expected to stimulate inclusive economic growth by unlocking local potential, improving productivity, and attracting both domestic and international investments across critical sectors. It places strong emphasis on modern, climate-resilient infrastructure, including clean energy initiatives, enhanced digital connectivity, and sustainable urban development.
In addition, the plan prioritizes strong institutional systems that promote transparency, accountability, citizen engagement, peace, and security. These governance reforms are intended to create an enabling environment for sustainable development and long-term prosperity.
