The Committee on Works of the Abia State House of Assembly recently conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the Mbato Ofeme Bridge, responding to the request made by Hon. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, the representative of Umuahia North State Constituency.

The visit, led by Hon. Kalu Mbah, the member representing Ohafia South LGA, aimed to evaluate the bridge’s condition and determine the necessary steps to restore and strengthen its structural integrity. Hon. Mbah was joined by Goddy Oyouwa, the Committee Secretary on Ward and Projects Monitoring, as they closely inspected the bridge’s current state.

This on-site visit was initiated in response to concerns about the bridge’s safety and the urgent need for repairs. During their time at the site, the committee also engaged with local stakeholders, including the traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Highness Eze Engr. Emeka Nwakwo, who warmly welcomed the delegation. The royal father expressed his deep appreciation for the committee’s visit, acknowledging their proactive approach to governance and infrastructural development.

Eze Nwakwo emphasized the importance of improving local infrastructure, noting that such interventions would greatly benefit the Ofeme community and the surrounding areas. He commended the efforts of the legislators in bringing government closer to the people, especially with such essential projects.

Also present at the inspection was Aguikwu Emmanuel Ifeanyi, the Prime Minister of the community, who echoed the sentiments of the traditional ruler. He highlighted the critical role that timely government intervention plays in improving the community’s infrastructure. The rehabilitation of the Mbato Ofeme Bridge, he noted, would significantly enhance the region’s economic activities, boosting the livelihoods of its residents.

This visit underscores the commitment of the Abia State House of Assembly to addressing the infrastructural needs of local communities, ensuring that projects are thoroughly assessed and that solutions are put in place for sustainable development. The collaboration between the lawmakers, local leaders, and the community showcases a unified approach to improving the state’s infrastructure for the benefit of its people.

As discussions continue, the Mbato Ofeme Bridge remains a top priority for government intervention, and the committee’s assessment signals an important step toward bringing positive change to the area.
