The United States military, through U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), has confirmed a precision airstrike targeting ISIS-linked terrorist camps in Sokoto State, located in northwestern Nigeria. The operation forms part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at weakening extremist networks operating in the region.
According to AFRICOM, the strike was authorized by the President of the United States in coordination with senior defense leadership and carried out in close collaboration with Nigerian security authorities. Officials noted that the mission underscores the growing security partnership between the United States and Nigeria in addressing transnational terrorist threats.
AFRICOM Commander, General Dagvin Anderson, stated that the command continues to work alongside Nigerian and regional partners to enhance intelligence sharing and counterterrorism cooperation. He emphasized that the objective of such operations is to protect innocent lives, safeguard U.S. interests, and disrupt the activities of violent extremist organizations wherever they operate.
The U.S. military further highlighted that strict protocols were followed to minimize the risk of civilian harm. Post-strike assessments are ongoing to evaluate the effectiveness of the operation and ensure accountability.
The release of official footage from the strike reflects AFRICOM’s commitment to transparency while reaffirming sustained U.S. engagement in supporting regional stability and security efforts across West Africa.
