Atiku Abubakar joins the ADC in Jada, marking a major political shift ahead of 2027 after resigning from the PDP.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant turning point in Nigeria’s political landscape. The ceremony took place at the party’s secretariat in his hometown of Jada, Adamawa State, where the former presidential candidate was warmly received by party officials and supporters.
Atiku, who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July 2025 citing deep disagreements over the party’s direction, was presented with his ADC membership card alongside symbolic gifts, including a personalized jersey branded “Waziri 01.” The gesture highlighted his long-standing influence and the party’s enthusiasm over his arrival.
ADC leaders described Atiku’s defection as a major boost to their evolving identity as a youth-driven and reform-oriented opposition force. His entry comes amid ongoing consultations with key stakeholders and is widely viewed as a strategic step ahead of the 2027 general elections.
