Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a move that is already generating strong political reactions across the country. His defection signals a notable shift in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
Abba Atiku was formally welcomed into the ruling party on Thursday evening in Abuja. He was received by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside the APC National Vice Chairman for the North East, Mustapha Salihu. Party leaders described his entry as a strategic boost to the APC’s grassroots mobilization efforts.
Following his decision to join the APC, Abba Atiku announced his intention to actively support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the party’s outreach, particularly among young people and political stakeholders across the northern region.

As part of this political realignment, Abba Atiku also rebranded the political movement he founded. The group, previously known as the Atiku Haske Organisation, has now been renamed the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation. The organization was originally established in 2022 to promote civic engagement and political participation.
Observers believe Abba Atiku’s move could have wider political implications, especially given his family background and the timing of the defection. The APC leadership has expressed confidence that his involvement will contribute positively to the party’s campaign structure and national appeal.
