Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has died after collapsing in his office and being rushed to FMC Yenagoa where he was pronounced dead.

The political landscape in Bayelsa State and Nigeria was shaken today following the confirmed death of Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo. The respected statesman reportedly collapsed suddenly in his Government House office in Yenagoa and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where he was later pronounced dead.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the 60-year-old deputy governor slumped at around 1:30 p.m. while attending to official duties. Immediate emergency efforts were made by aides and security personnel, and he was swiftly transported to the hospital. Sadly, medical professionals were unable to revive him, and he was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.

News of Ewhrudjakpo’s death spread quickly, prompting an outpouring of grief from political figures, colleagues, and citizens. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described the loss as “an inexplicable and painful blow” to the state and party family. Government officials and senior leaders have been reported to visit the hospital and Bayelsa Government House to pay their respects, as security operatives maintain order around the FMC premises.
