In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary on Monday, Tersoo Kula, the governor stated that he cannot guarantee the safety of anyone who enters Benue without his knowledge.

He stressed that such visits, especially those that could attract political gatherings or cause public unrest, must receive proper clearance from the state government.

According to him, security arrangements are crucial and can only be made when relevant authorities are duly informed ahead of time.

The statement also highlighted that anyone intending to visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the state must first seek approval from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA).

The governor noted that IDP camps are sensitive areas and should not be approached without official permission, to avoid causing unnecessary tension or security concerns.

Part of the official release read: “The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, wishes to inform the public that he is not expecting any August visitor to the state today.

“He is currently engaged in high-profile meetings with key state actors to discuss critical issues affecting our state. Therefore, he strongly advises against any group or high-profile individual(s) attempting to enter the state for any kind of visit that may generate political assemblies without prior approval.”

He concluded by calling on security agencies and citizens to remain vigilant and to report any unapproved activity that could affect the peace and stability of the state.
