FG mandates thesis submission for NYSC mobilization starting Oct 6, 2025; graduates must upload projects to NERD for verification.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a new policy requiring all prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to submit their academic thesis or final year project before mobilization.
According to the directive, effective October 6, 2025, graduates must upload their completed research projects to the National Education Research Database (NERD) as proof of academic output. This move is part of the government’s wider plan to improve academic integrity, enhance research documentation, and promote innovation across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Officials noted that the policy will apply to all graduates seeking NYSC mobilization, regardless of discipline or institution. The Federal Government stated that the initiative is aimed at creating a central repository of scholarly work that can support future policy development, research funding, and institutional accountability.

Education stakeholders have hailed the move as a step toward strengthening Nigeria’s knowledge economy, while some have expressed concern over the ease of compliance for graduates from institutions with limited digital infrastructure.
The NYSC management is expected to release detailed guidelines and a step-by-step process for submission on its official platforms ahead of the implementation date.
