Former Governor Of Imo State Officially Move To ADC

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, Former Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has officially announced his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signaling a new chapter in his political journey ahead of the 2027 elections. Ihedioha made the announcement during a meeting with leaders of his grassroots political network, the Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM), held at his Civil Centre residence on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Ihedioha declared, “My party, your party, our party is now ADC. That is the way forward.” He urged RIM leaders to take the message of his defection to every part of the state—from chapters to wards, local government areas, and across the three geopolitical zones—while strengthening the ADC’s grassroots presence.
Ihedioha emphasized that the strength of their political movement lies with the people, not political elites, and that the ADC is the ideal platform for rebuilding and advancing Imo State. He noted that the RIM structure already has representation in all 305 wards across 27 LGAs and is well-positioned to mobilize voters under the ADC umbrella.
The former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives expressed deep gratitude to his loyal supporters and political associates for standing by him since their collective resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2024. He acknowledged their patience during the period of political transition and praised the Director General of the RIM for his organizational leadership.
He also appreciated the efforts of state, zonal, LGA, and ward-level leaders, as well as the state women leader, Lady Ijeoma Domike, and the youth wings of the movement for their continued support and resilience. “Together, we shall triumph,” Ihedioha said confidently, signaling renewed political energy and direction for his followers. The announcement was met with excitement and a sense of relief among supporters, many of whom had been waiting for clarity on Ihedioha’s political direction. His switch to ADC is seen as a strategic move to re-enter the political mainstream and reposition his base for future contests. With this declaration, Ihedioha and his supporters are expected to begin a vigorous campaign to consolidate ADC’s presence in Imo State and beyond, potentially shifting the political dynamics ahead of the next election cycle.
