The leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB have been facing trial since 2015. Many judges had sat over his trial before the current Judge, Justice James Omotosho who during his case yesterday 28/5/2025 opened a new case he termed ” Trial within Trial”.

The case was opened after the defendant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu accused Witness number 3 of obtaining his statements under duress. The judge decided to take look into the accusation and after cross examination of the witness and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Judge made a ruling in Favor of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and struck out evidence from Witness No3.

Presiding Judge- “Having listened to both parties, all Written statements and video interviews tendered by the prosecution, has been struck out.
I hereby declare that the defendant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s statements, was done under duress in the absence of his legal representative”.

If you had been following this case from yesterday, you would have known the witness lied to the court on oath, he went ahead to say his video will prove Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is been given presidential treatment. But after the video was played the presiding judge saw multiple times where Mazi Nnamdi Kanu mentioned the absence of his lawyers.

The case is not over, but let’s hold this first win under the new Justice.
