Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centres Act to Establish Federal Medical Centre, Ikwuano, Abia State and for Related Matters (HB.1605) (Hon. Obinna Aguocha)
The House of Representatives has given its approval for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ikwuano, Abia State, following the consideration and adoption of a report by the Committee on Health Institutions, chaired by Hon. Patrick Umoh.
The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centres Act and Establish Federal Medical Centre, Ikwuano, Abia State, and for Related Matters (HB. 1605),” was first referred to the committee on March 4, 2025. After extensive deliberations, it successfully passed its third reading in the House, marking a significant milestone in the legislative process.

Lawmakers noted that the proposed medical centre will serve as a major boost to healthcare delivery in Abia State and neighboring regions. It is also expected to create jobs, enhance medical training, and ease the burden on other federal medical facilities across the South-East.


The bill will now proceed to the Senate for concurrence before being transmitted to the President for final assent.
