In a major political development, a key appointee of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Bola Oyebamiji, has officially stepped down from his role as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Oyebamiji confirmed his resignation late Friday, stating that his decision aligns with Nigeria’s electoral guidelines as he prepares to contest the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
He said, “Yes, I have resigned in accordance with the electoral law to pursue my Osun 2026 governorship ambition.”
A close associate also validated the announcement, describing the move as a strategic step toward focusing fully on his political bid.
According to the source, “Yes, he has resigned. He is contesting, and he wants to face the election properly.”

Before his appointment at NIWA, Oyebamiji served twice as Osun State Commissioner for Finance and later as Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
