In a powerful and unprecedented move, human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher Omoyele Sowore has called for a nationwide peaceful march to Aso Rock Villa to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Sowore, known for his fearless advocacy and pro-democracy activism, declared that it was time for Nigerians particularly Southeast leaders to rise above political divisions and unite for justice.
“No more empty noise,” Sowore said emphatically. “I challenge every politician, governor, senator, House member, traditional ruler, priest, Eze, Igbo person, and every Nigerian who believes in justice to step up NOW. The time for action is here!”

The activist singled out key Southeast leaders, including Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra), Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Governor Alex Otti (Abia), and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, urging them to personally join the march.
According to Sowore, the proposed march will be peaceful, lawful, and highly visible, serving as a united demand for Kanu’s release after over four years in detention since his arrest in June 2021.
Sowore emphasized that the struggle for Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom transcends political lines or ethnic affiliations, describing it as a moral and human rights cause.
“We go together peacefully, legally, and visibly to demand justice and an end to MNK’s persecution,” he asserted.
“Let’s stop talking and start walking.”
The planned protest is expected to attract attention from both local and international observers, as pressure mounts on the federal government to adhere to court rulings and human rights standards regarding Kanu’s prolonged detention.
The activist concluded his announcement with a rallying cry: #FreeNnamdiKanuNow, urging Nigerians to prepare for collective civil action that could redefine civic engagement in the country.
