Mass abduction in Niger State as CAN confirms 227 students and teachers kidnapped from St. Mary’s School in a midnight attack.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, has officially confirmed that 227 people were abducted during a brutal overnight raid on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, between 2:00am and 3:00am, when armed bandits stormed the school premises, overwhelming local security and triggering widespread panic. Initial reports struggled to establish the precise number of victims, owing to the chaos that followed the assault.
However, in a detailed update released Friday evening, Daniel Atori, media aide to the state CAN Chairman, clarified that the abducted include 215 pupils and students, as well as 12 teachers taken by the attackers.
