The luxurious Ikoyi abode of Dr. Desmond Chima Anyaso was transformed into a symbol of Igbo eminence on Saturday, January 25, 2025, as distinguished billionaires, technocrats, and politicians convened to pay tribute to Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, of Abia State.
The gathering, reminiscent of a lavish celebration of Southeastern advancement, united prominent personalities such as the 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and Ebonyi State’s PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii.
Notable business tycoons present included Allen Onyema (Air Peace), Prof. Obiora Okonkwo (United Nigeria Airlines), Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), Pascal Okechukwu (Cubana Chief Priest), Ngozi Ekeoma (NEPAL Group), Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi (Obi Jackson, Nestoil), Oliver Alawuba (UBA), and Joseph Eze Okafor (Jowizazaa), among others.
In his introductory remarks, Dr. Anyaso ascribed the remarkable turnout to Governor Otti’s exceptional leadership in Abia State. He characterized the event as a New Year visit, symbolizing the shared optimism and camaraderie among the attendees.
Several distinguished speakers, including Chief UD Kalu, Chike Okoroafor, Chief Charles Ahize, and Ngozi Ekeoma, lauded Governor Otti for his transformative governance.
Chief UD Kalu remarked, “Previously, we hesitated to proclaim our origin from Abia State, but today, the narrative has shifted. We take pride in your endeavors, and we are now esteemed Abians.”
Similarly, Ngozi Ekeoma cited scripture, stating, “We have gained insight because, in the past, we were blind, but now our vision is clear.” She urged the governor to sustain his momentum and uphold his focus on development.
During his address, Governor Alex Otti expressed appreciation to Dr. Anyaso and his spouse for hosting the gathering and acknowledged the overwhelming support from the attendees.
Reflecting on his administration’s initiatives, he underscored the significance of purposeful governance, emphasizing that leadership lapses often originate from the apex.
“By getting it right at the helm, all other aspects fall into place.
Our administration is dedicated to ensuring that Abia State’s resources serve its populace. When the leadership refrains from corruption, it becomes arduous for subordinates to engage in malpractice,” Governor Otti articulated.
In response to internal opposition, Otti likened dissenters to individuals whose “dependency on unethical practices has been severed,” suggesting that their resistance stems from the disruption of corrupt behaviors. He reassured the audience that the vast majority of Abians—95%—endorse his administration’s progressive agenda.
Concluding the gathering, the Labour Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, extolled Governor Otti’s performance, noting that overt opposition often signifies effective governance.
“As I conversed with some individuals here, they expressed that their presence this evening is a testament to your commendable performance. Governor Otti is excelling, and it is imperative that we bolster his efforts,” Obi remarked. He urged Otti to prioritize the welfare of the underprivileged, recognizing that the affluent can fend for themselves.
The soirée exemplified the unity and shared aspirations of Igbo leaders, magnates, and technocrats, all rallying behind Governor Alex Otti’s transformative stewardship in Abia State.
