Court denies Tukur Mamu’s third bail request, orders DSS to retain custody and ensure medical care amid terrorism-related charges.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has once again refused to grant bail to detained alleged terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mohammed Mamu, citing no valid grounds to warrant his release.

Justice Mohammed Umar, who presided over the case, delivered the ruling on Mamu’s third bail application on health grounds, emphasizing that the Department of State Services (DSS) has shown commendable diligence in handling the matter.

According to Justice Umar, one of the main conditions for granting bail is when the prosecution exhibits a lack of diligence. However, in Mamu’s case, the DSS has been consistent and thorough in its prosecution, leaving the court with no justification to approve bail.

The judge ordered that Mamu remain in DSS custody, directing the agency to transfer him to any medical facility of his lawyer’s choosing for proper treatment if necessary. He also instructed the DSS to grant Mamu access to members of his family.

Mamu, a former negotiator in the Abuja–Kaduna train attack, is accused of acting as an intermediary for terrorists during ransom negotiations. He allegedly received ransom payments from families of kidnapped victims, confirmed the amounts, and facilitated their delivery to the Boko Haram insurgents responsible for the attack that left several people dead and many abducted.

This latest ruling marks the third time Mamu’s bail request has been denied, reinforcing the court’s stance on the severity of the allegations and the ongoing prosecution.
