A Magistrate Court in Abuja has granted bail to prominent human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, alongside Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, one of the legal representatives of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and 11 other protesters.
The group had been arrested during a peaceful demonstration calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in custody facing terrorism-related charges. The protest, tagged #FreeNnamdiKanu, was held in Abuja and drew attention from several civil rights groups and pro-democracy activists.

Reports indicate that Prince Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, was also among those granted bail. The court’s decision was welcomed by supporters who described it as a positive step toward upholding citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful protest and freedom of expression.
Sowore, a long-time advocate for justice and democracy, expressed gratitude for the court’s ruling, reiterating his commitment to standing against oppression and human rights violations. Similarly, Barrister Ejimakor, who has consistently championed Kanu’s legal rights, stated that the protest aimed to draw attention to the prolonged detention of the IPOB leader and the need for fair trial proceedings.
The court granted bail to all defendants under specific conditions, pending further hearings. Their release marks a significant development in the ongoing activism surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration and the broader call for justice and accountability in Nigeria.
