Court sets November 7, 2025 as final deadline for Nnamdi Kanu to open his defence or risk losing the chance in his ongoing trial.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a final deadline for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to present his defence in his ongoing trial. During the latest court session, the judge emphasized that the defence team must open their case by November 7, 2025, or risk losing the legal right to do so.
This development comes amid prolonged legal proceedings surrounding charges filed by the Federal Government, including accusations related to terrorism and separatist activities. While Kanu has consistently maintained his innocence, his legal team has raised multiple objections concerning fair trial processes, detention conditions, and the legitimacy of some charges.
The presiding judge made it clear that the court will not entertain further delays. If the defence fails to open their case on the newly assigned date, the court will proceed to close the defence and move forward with judgment based on available evidence presented by the prosecution.

Supporters of Kanu and IPOB have continued to call for his unconditional release, arguing that his detention is political and violates his constitutional rights. Meanwhile, government representatives insist that the charges are strictly tied to national security and public safety concerns.
As the new deadline approaches, public attention is expected to intensify, especially given the national and international interest surrounding the high-profile case.
