a surprising development, engineers who were laid off by the Dangote Refinery during its industrial dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have been re-engaged and redeployed to various project sites across the country.

Reports indicate that the affected engineers, including some who were still graduate trainees at the time of their dismissal, have been invited to collect their re-employment or redeployment letters.

According to information obtained, some of these engineers have been posted to a coal mining site in Okpokwu, Benue State, while others have been assigned to concrete road construction projects in Borno and Ebonyi States. Additionally, a number of them were reassigned to rice processing plants in Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.

The letters reportedly instructed the redeployed staff to resume duty within 14 days of receiving their engagement notice, warning that failure to comply could lead to forfeiture of the opportunity.

One of the letters, obtained by The PUNCH, reads in part:

“Based on your performance at the assessment and subsequent interviews held with you, we are pleased to engage you as Engineer Trainee (Mechanical Engineering) for the coal project we are executing at Okpokwu, Benue State.

You are required to report to your work location within 14 days upon receipt of this letter. You will undergo both classroom and hands-on training in the construction, commissioning, and operation of the Coal Project. The training period will last two years and will be reviewed periodically.”

The letter also outlined that the engagement could be terminated by either party with one month’s notice or equivalent payment. It concluded with a formal welcome to the Dangote Group, expressing confidence in the engineers’ potential to grow into leadership roles within the organization.
