The Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, has praised the developmental achievements of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, noting that the impact of his administration is being recognized far beyond Abia State and Nigeria.

The respected traditional ruler made the commendation on Thursday, December 25, during the 2025 Atani Day Celebration held at the Atani Community School Field in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State. The event also marked the Emir’s Christmas visit to Abia, where he joined Governor Otti, a longtime friend, in celebrating with the people.

Speaking at the occasion, Emir Sanusi II congratulated Governor Otti on what he described as visible and commendable progress recorded within two years of his administration.

According to him, the transformation in Abia State has attracted attention not only within the state but also internationally. He expressed confidence in the governor’s capacity to sustain the momentum of development and prayed for continued success in service to the people. The Emir also expressed pride in serving on Governor Otti’s International Economic Advisory Council.

The monarch, who arrived in Abia on December 23, further commended the rich cultural displays showcased during the Atani Day celebration. He emphasized the importance of unity, cultural exchange, and mutual respect among Nigerians, calling for the strengthening of bonds across regions to promote national cohesion.

Reflecting on his longstanding relationship with Governor Otti, Emir Sanusi recalled their decades-long friendship dating back to their professional careers in the banking sector. He noted that this was not his first visit to Arochukwu but his first time attending the Atani Day event, which he described as impressive and culturally enriching. He conveyed goodwill from the people of Kano and expressed hope for continued unity among Nigerians as citizens of one nation.

In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti warmly welcomed the Emir, describing him as a brother and trusted friend of over two decades. He noted that the Emir’s visit during Christmas symbolized unity beyond ethnic and religious lines.

Governor Otti condemned the politicization of ethnicity and religion, stating that genuine leadership should be anchored on ideas, competence, and service to the people. He praised Emir Sanusi’s resilience in the face of past challenges, citing his principled stance during his tenure as Central Bank Governor and his eventual reinstatement as Emir as lessons in courage and perseverance.

The governor encouraged the people to remain steadfast despite challenges, assuring them that his administration remains focused and unshaken. He reaffirmed that his government was established by the will of the people and divine purpose, and therefore would not be distracted by political noise.

Governor Otti also apologized to residents for inconveniences caused by ongoing infrastructure projects in the area, assuring them that contractors have been directed to expedite work for timely completion. He reiterated that governance is about improving lives and delivering tangible benefits to the people.

Highlighting his administration’s priorities, the governor emphasized sustained investments in healthcare, education, security, and social welfare. He disclosed that between 15 and 20 percent of the state’s annual budget has consistently been allocated to healthcare and education over the past two years.

Using the Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, as an example, Governor Otti explained how the institution was revived through prompt payment of salary arrears, curriculum overhaul, and successful re-accreditation of courses after years of neglect. He added that hostels, laboratories, and staff quarters are currently being rehabilitated.
