Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, is reportedly set to make a major political move as he prepares to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on October 14, 2025.
Governor Mbah, who emerged as Enugu’s chief executive under the PDP platform in 2023, is said to have secured the full backing of his cabinet members, including the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, who recently endorsed the move publicly.
According to reliable sources within the state, preparations are already in top gear at the Government House for the official declaration. Part of the ceremony will reportedly include hoisting the APC flag, symbolizing Enugu’s shift towards the ruling party.
The planned event is expected to attract several political heavyweights, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, top APC national executives, and influential South-East leaders.
Insiders suggest that the defection is driven by deep-seated divisions within the PDP and Mbah’s desire to strengthen political and economic ties with the Federal Government. The move, analysts say, could reshape the political landscape of the South-East, especially as APC continues its expansion drive across the region.
If successful, Mbah’s defection would make him the first sitting governor from the South-East to join APC in this political cycle, marking a significant realignment in Nigeria’s evolving political dynamics.
