Ex-Abia governor and former senator T.A. Orji resigns from the PDP after years of political influence, sparking speculation about his next move.
Former Abia State governor and two-term senator representing Abia Central, Theodore Ahamefule Orji, has officially announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his long-standing affiliation with the party.
Orji made his decision public through a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Umuahia North Local Government Area. The letter stated that his withdrawal from the party takes immediate effect and follows “wide consultations with family and associates.”
In the letter, the former governor expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences he gained during his time in the party, but offered no indication of his next political destination.
Orji’s political journey spans over two decades. He first gained prominence in 1999 when then-Governor Orji Uzor Kalu appointed him as Chief of Staff. In 2007, he emerged as governor under the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA). By 2010, he had defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) before finally moving to the PDP in August of the same year.

He was re-elected governor under the PDP in 2011 and later represented Abia Central in the Senate from 2015 to 2023, completing two terms on the party’s platform.
With his resignation now formalized, the political landscape in Abia State may experience fresh alignment dynamics, even as Orji remains silent on his future plans.
