Shock move as FCT and Federal Fire Services unveil sweeping reforms, expanded mandate, and fresh training drive to boost fire safety in Abuja.
In a move set to reshape fire safety and emergency response in Nigeria’s capital, the Federal Fire Service (FFS) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service have struck a fresh partnership — with capacity building, training, and sweeping reforms at the core.
The deal was sealed during a high-level courtesy visit by the Director of the FCT Fire Service, Engr. Zaccheaus Adebayo, to the Controller General of the FFS, Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, in Abuja.
Training, Modern Equipment Top Agenda
Both agencies agreed that tighter collaboration is critical to safeguarding Abuja. Discussions zeroed in on advanced training for officers, access to modern firefighting infrastructure, and stronger frameworks for inter-agency knowledge sharing.

Olumode assured that the FFS will provide critical interventions to raise the operational efficiency of the FCT Fire Service.
Big Reform Coming by December 2025
In a major revelation, the Controller General disclosed that the Fire Service’s governing Act will be reviewed by December 2025. The reforms will expand the agency’s mandate beyond firefighting — giving it a new nationwide role in rescue operations and emergency management services.
“Stronger Ties, Safer Nation”
Olumode hailed the FCT Fire Service for taking the initiative, stressing that joint efforts are vital in protecting lives and property. He pledged the Service’s full commitment to collaborations that raise Nigeria’s fire safety and emergency response standards.
What This Means for Abuja
With these sweeping changes on the horizon, residents of the FCT may soon witness the biggest overhaul in fire and rescue services in decades — a transformation that could determine how quickly lives and property are saved when the next major emergency strikes.
