Nigeria Declares October 1, 2025, Public Holiday for 65th Independence Day Celebration
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 65th Independence Day. The announcement was made in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
In his statement, Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Nigerians at home and abroad as the country prepares to celebrate another milestone since gaining independence in 1960. He emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and resilience—qualities he described as the pillars of Nigeria’s progress over the decades.
The Minister also called on citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity. He expressed confidence that with collective effort, Nigeria would continue to advance in stability and development.
