Fire breaks out at Abuja’s Federal Secretariat Complex but firefighters quickly contain the blaze. No casualties reported as authorities order investigation.
A fire incident occurred early Monday at the Federal Secretariat Complex Phase II in Abuja, causing temporary disruption before emergency responders successfully brought the situation under control.
The blaze reportedly started on the fourth floor of Block C, an area occupied by the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), which operates under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. The cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed, but preliminary indications suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical fault.
Emergency teams from several fire service stations responded swiftly to the incident. Their quick intervention helped contain the flames within a few hours, preventing the fire from spreading to other sections of the building. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident, as staff members in the affected building were safely evacuated.
Following the incident, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, visited the site to assess the situation. Walson-Jack also directed relevant authorities to launch a full investigation into the cause of the fire. In addition, she ordered a comprehensive structural assessment of the affected section of the building to ensure its safety before normal operations resume.
