BREAKING: Five-Star Hotel, New Stadium Coming to Umuahia – Gov Otti

Governor Alex Otti has stated that the ongoing transformation of Umuahia is still in its early phase, as his administration begins the process of repositioning the state capital.

Otti made the remarks on Friday, April 10, during a civic reception organised in his honour by the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

According to the governor, his government has already mapped out a clear vision for the city’s development, stressing that the goal is to build a modern capital that reflects its identity rather than replicate other cities.

“We have clearly set out what we want Umuahia to look like. We are not trying to copy any other city; we want it to reflect who we are,” he said.

As part of the planned transformation, Otti disclosed that arrangements have been concluded to establish a five-star hotel in the city. The proposed facility, expected to have between 200 and 250 rooms, will be located near the township stadium, with groundbreaking expected in the coming weeks.

He explained that the project is aimed at boosting Umuahia’s capacity to host conferences, retreats, and large-scale events, describing it as a key driver of urban growth.

The governor also confirmed that land has been secured for the construction of a new stadium in the state capital, adding that discussions are ongoing to ensure proper execution of the project.

On healthcare, Otti pointed to ongoing work at the Amachara Specialist Hospital, expressing optimism that the facility would be completed and commissioned before the end of the year.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing all projects it initiates, noting that due diligence is carried out before any major development begins.

“We do not start projects we cannot finish,” the governor said.

Stakeholders at the event commended the administration’s performance, citing improvements in infrastructure, healthcare delivery, and social welfare initiatives.

The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, praised the governor’s efforts and assured him of continued support from the constituency.

Also speaking, Most Rev. Raphael Opoko described the reception as a recognition of purposeful leadership, noting that the administration has begun to redefine governance in the state.

The event also featured the defection of several political figures into the Labour Party. Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Hon. Udo Oluchi Ibeji pledged support for the governor and his administration.
