In what appears to be another major shake-up within the opposition ranks, a former North West Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ex-Kebbi State Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Manzo, has officially resigned from the party.

The veteran politician, who has held several key positions in Kebbi State including Commissioner for Health, Commissioner for Agriculture, and Amirul Hajj announced his resignation in a letter dated September 16, 2025. The letter was addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Dikko Ward, Argungu Local Government Area, and copied to both the local government and state leadership of the party.

A Carefully Considered Exit

In his resignation letter, Manzo described his decision as personal and carefully considered, stating that it followed a period of deep reflection.

“I write to formally inform you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. My decision is personal and based on careful considerations. I sincerely appreciate the support, cooperation, and kindness I have enjoyed from the party, its leadership, and members during my time as a member,” he said.

The former PDP stalwart expressed his gratitude to the party’s leadership at all levels for the goodwill and collaboration he experienced during his membership.

Political Uncertainty Ahead

Although Alhaji Manzo did not disclose his next political destination, his resignation adds to the growing list of high-profile defections and resignations recently recorded within the PDP.

Political observers believe that his exit could further deepen internal tensions within the party, particularly in the North West geopolitical zone, where the PDP has been grappling with issues of unity and internal restructuring ahead of future elections.

Manzo’s political career has spanned various capacities. Beyond his tenure in the PDP, he once contested as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), reflecting his long-standing involvement in Nigeria’s political landscape.

While many await his next move, analysts suggest that his resignation may signal possible alignment with emerging political forces or a strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
