A fresh twist has emerged in the ongoing political battle between the Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as lawmakers claim that their official letter inviting the governor for dialogue never reached him—because their dispatch rider was chased away. This claim, made by the Rivers People’s Congress and confirmed by lawmakers, has sparked widespread debate over whether Governor Fubara is deliberately avoiding engagement with the Assembly or if there is a calculated effort to block communication.
Senator George Sako, a key figure in the Rivers People’s Congress, revealed the shocking incident during a press briefing. “Immediately after the Supreme Court judgment, the House invited the governor for a discussion. A dispatch rider was sent to deliver the letter to him, but he was chased away.” He continued “the letter was not received. That is a fact,” Sako stated.
According to him, this raises serious concerns about Fubara’s willingness to engage with lawmakers. “If he did not get the letter, as he claims, why didn’t he call the Speaker? The Speaker’s phone is not switched off. If you truly want peace, you don’t ignore an official invitation from the legislature.”
However, Governor Fubara’s camp dismissed the claims, insisting that he never received any official letter from the House. The governor reportedly expressed surprise when confronted about the issue, stating: “I have not seen any letter from the Assembly. If they sent me an official invitation, where is it?” His aides backed him up, arguing that the proper channels were not followed and that the supposed dispatch rider should have made a second attempt if he was truly turned away.
The incident has further deepened suspicions on both sides, with lawmakers now suggesting that the governor is intentionally blocking communication while Fubara’s supporters accuse the House of playing political games.
Senator Sako was not convinced by the governor’s defense. “If the governor truly wanted to receive the letter, he would have made a single phone call. He would have called the Speaker and asked, ‘Sir, did you invite me?’ But instead, he is acting like the letter never existed.”
He went further to criticize the governor’s approach to peace talks. “If Fubara truly wanted peace, why did he have his aide send an invitation to the Assembly instead of signing it himself? He even had the audacity to post it on social media rather than delivering it through the right channels.”
Enough of This River’s Dirty politics.
If an invitation was seen and dispatched Rider Chase.
Why didn’t the speaker Phone The Governor to confirm Rather than of asking that the Governor should have call Him in this case..
Fubara is in trouble with the House Undoubtedly.
