Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara appoints Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff and Dagogo Wokoma as SSG amid post-crisis reconciliation efforts.
Siminalayi Fubara has announced the appointment of a new Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), a move seen as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize governance in Rivers State following recent political tensions.
The governor named Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff and Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government. Both officials were sworn in on Thursday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The appointments come shortly after the February 12 dissolution of the State Executive Council and a peace agreement brokered by Bola Tinubu aimed at resolving political differences between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Barrister Ewule, a legal practitioner from Emohua and long-time loyalist of the governor, replaces Edison Ehie. Ehie’s brief tenure had sparked public speculation, particularly amid reports that leadership adjustments formed part of the broader reconciliation efforts within the state’s political landscape.
Dr. Wokoma, an academic with a background in mathematics and statistics, steps into the role of SSG. His appointment signals the governor’s intent to bring technocratic experience into the administrative structure of the state.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Fubara delivered a firm directive to his new Chief of Staff. He emphasized that the position functions strictly as a personal aide to the governor and not as an independent power center within government.
According to the governor, the Chief of Staff must not convene meetings or engage in official consultations without express approval. He also issued a stern warning against involvement in unauthorized or “nocturnal” meetings, stating clearly that any breach of this directive would result in immediate dismissal.
The remarks underscore the governor’s determination to maintain direct control over his administration and prevent internal conflicts amid ongoing reconciliation efforts in Rivers State.
Observers believe the latest appointments could mark a fresh chapter in the state’s governance as the administration seeks unity and stability following months of political uncertainty.
