A Fulani herdsman has publicly commended retired General Christopher Musa following his swearing-in as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence by President Bola Tinubu. Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, officially assumed office on Thursday after receiving Senate confirmation.
In a circulating video, the herdsman applauded Musa’s knowledge of Nigeria’s security landscape, particularly the complex challenges posed by banditry and communal violence. He expressed optimism that Musa’s leadership would bring meaningful solutions to persistent insecurity while also thanking President Tinubu for appointing him.
The gesture has generated mixed reactions. Some Nigerians interpret the message as a sincere show of support from a community gravely affected by bandit attacks. They argue that many herders are both victims of violence and stakeholders in peace efforts, making their endorsement significant.
However, others have raised concerns over the seemingly relaxed interaction between the herdsman and soldiers in the video.
