Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to accelerating development across the state as he approaches the third year of his first tenure. Governor Otti assured Abians that the pace of transformation will intensify, urging citizens and residents not to lose faith because, according to him, “the best is yet to come.”

The Governor made this known on Sunday during a worship service at the Methodist Theological Institute (MTI), Mission Hill, Umuahia, where he attended service unannounced, in his usual tradition of worshiping God without prior notice.

Addressing the jubilant congregation, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to Abians for their steadfast support before, during, and after the 2023 elections. He acknowledged the spiritual and physical efforts of the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Raphael Chibuzo Opoko, and other men of God who prayed fervently for divine intervention and positive change in Abia State.

The Governor noted that his administration inherited a “government in total disarray” but has since stabilized the system. Using a road construction analogy, he likened his early reforms to excavating bad soil to reach a stable foundation, as seen in the ongoing reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road, Aba.

“I can assure you that we’ve now reached stable ground. The speed with which we worked in the first two years will increase as we move into the third year,” Otti declared.

Encouraging Abians to remain hopeful, he added, “This is our state; it is our collective responsibility to rebuild it. We are fearless in doing what is right and will continue to act in the best interest of our people. When we make mistakes, we will acknowledge them, correct ourselves, and apologize.”

In his sermon titled “Don’t Lose Heart,” drawn from Luke 18:1, the preacher, Very Rev. Dr. Nnaemeka Ndubuwa, described Abia as “God’s Own State” and Governor Otti as “a servant chosen by God to restore the state.” He emphasized the importance of prayer as a means of communication with God, encouraging believers to remain steadfast in faith.

Archbishop Opoko led the congregation in special prayers for the Governor, his team, and the state, urging him not to be discouraged by criticism, noting that “a fruitful tree attracts stones.”

Governor Otti was accompanied by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu; Chief of Staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu; Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu; and other senior aides and local government mayors.
