Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his commitment to restoring the dignity of Abians, pledging a zero-tolerance policy toward bribery and corruption within his administration. Speaking during an unannounced visit to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Abayi District, Aba, and at the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of the General Overseer of Living Word Ministries International, Bro. Emma Okorie, Governor Otti reiterated that his sole reason for joining politics was to uphold integrity and serve the people.
According to the Governor, restoring dignity and rebuilding public trust are at the heart of his administration’s agenda. “The only reason I contested the election was the dignity of our people, not money or personal gain. Anything that does not restore the dignity of the Abia person is unacceptable to us,” he stated to a cheering congregation.
Governor Otti issued a stern warning to appointees and civil servants that bribery, corruption, and favoritism will not be tolerated. “If anyone in my government demands money from you for any service, they are a fraud. Everything due to you will come without lobbying or bribery. Any official found guilty of corruption will be dismissed immediately. We are intolerant of corruption, and no one can plead on your behalf if you are caught,” he emphasized.
The Governor highlighted his administration’s recent recruitment of 5,394 teachers as an example of transparency and merit-based selection. “Nobody paid a bribe, and nobody was employed because of connections. Even people close to me had to sit for the exam. If you passed, you were hired; if not, you weren’t,” he explained, earning thunderous applause.
Dr. Otti also underscored that his administration will not apologize for doing the right thing. “Those who are not pleased with our reforms have had their time. We have drawn the line — Abia is on the rise,” he declared.
On infrastructure, Governor Otti announced that several completed projects in Aba, including the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road and Ohanku Road, would be commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 3.
Pastor Macaulay Nwosu of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church commended the Governor for his visible achievements across the state — from road construction and hospital upgrades to regular payment of workers’ salaries. He praised the transparent recruitment process, which ensured thousands of qualified teachers secured employment without inducements, unlike previous administrations.
At the Living Word Ministries International, Bro. Emma Okorie applauded the Governor’s people-focused governance, calling it an answer to years of prayer for a transformational leader in Abia. Governor Otti congratulated the Okorie family on their golden jubilee, describing their marriage as an inspiration for the younger generation.
