Gov. Alex Otti confirms 5,394 new teachers resume Sept 22, inspects Ovom Street reconstruction, urges residents to support state projects.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has announced that the 5,394 newly recruited teachers in the state will officially resume duty on September 22, 2025, coinciding with the reopening of schools.

His Excellency Dr Alex Chioma Otti, Governor of Abia State

Governor Otti made this disclosure on Sunday, September 14, 2025, during an unannounced worship service at Salvation Ministries, 135 Okigwe Road, Aba. Addressing the congregation, he stressed that the recruitment exercise was carried out transparently and strictly based on merit.

“We placed integrity first in our recruitment process. Applicants wrote tests, attended interviews, and were selected purely on performance. There was no Governor’s list or political influence of any kind,” Otti stated to applause.

The Governor reaffirmed that the employment process was open to all residents of Abia, insisting that no one should be favored over a more qualified candidate.

Otti also used the platform to call on residents to protect public infrastructure and keep their surroundings clean. He noted that Aba has undergone significant environmental improvement under his administration and urged citizens to help sustain the progress.

Emphasizing civic responsibility, the Governor reminded citizens about the importance of paying taxes, describing tax as “the government’s share of the prosperity it creates.” He revealed that his administration has maintained a fair tax system while delivering essential infrastructure and services.

Governor Otti further praised residents for supporting government projects. He recounted how a grateful citizen donated ₦200 million to the state government after it rehabilitated a major road linking his community to other parts of the state.

The Governor also encouraged eligible voters to take part in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise, warning that failure to vote is effectively “a vote for the wrong candidate.”

After the church service, Governor Otti inspected the ongoing reconstruction of Ovom Street, which had suffered extensive damage due to gully erosion. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and assured residents that the project would be completed before the end of the year.

Governor Otti was accompanied on the visit by top government officials and aides.
