In a significant move to promote inclusivity and equitable development, Hon. Obi Aguocha, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has announced plans to extend his educational support initiatives to include non-indigenes residing in the constituency.

The lawmaker, who has been widely commended for his robust education-focused interventions across wards and communities, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen on thursday.
He emphasized that access to education is a universal right that should not be limited by ethnicity, origin, or place of birth.

“Education is the key to unlocking the full potential of any society. We have made substantial progress in supporting our students through scholarships and educational grants. However, to truly build an inclusive society, we must ensure that non-indigenes who call this place home are not left behind,” Hon. Aguocha declared.

He further stated that the next phase of his educational empowerment program will cater to all eligible students, regardless of their state of origin, as long as they are bona fide residents of the constituency and meet the basic academic criteria.

“We will expand our educational support to reach non-indigenes because development should not be selective. Whether you’re from Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Benue, or any other state, if you live here, contribute here, and send your children to school here, then you deserve to benefit from our programs,” he affirmed.

According to Hon. Aguocha, the expanded initiative will cover tuition support, examination registration fees (including JAMB, WAEC and NECO), provision of learning materials, and in some cases, mentorship and career guidance workshops.

“Our goal is to eliminate barriers to education and ensure that no child or youth is left behind because of where their parents come from. We are one people under God, and our diversity should be our strength, not a basis for exclusion,” he added.

The announcement has drawn praise from various community leaders and residents, especially from minority groups who have long advocated for greater inclusion in public empowerment programs.

Hon. Aguocha also used the opportunity to call on other political leaders and stakeholders to adopt similar inclusive policies in their respective constituencies, noting that unity and shared prosperity are crucial to national peace and development.

“We cannot build a stronger Nigeria by isolating those who live among us. It is time we all rose above parochial sentiments and focused on collective progress,” he concluded.
