February 26, 2025 – In a decisive move to address the growing security concerns in Umuahia North, the Honorable Member representing the constituency has taken urgent action against the disturbing trend of ritual killings and the dumping of dead bodies at Imo River in Uhuala Oriendu Autonomous Community.
During yesterday’s House of Assembly sitting, the lawmaker raised alarm over the shocking reports that unidentified individuals, often arriving in flashy vehicles at night, have been using the Uhuala-Umuoma NDDC road as a dumping ground for victims of suspected ritual killings. These incidents, which have been ongoing since October 2024, have left residents in fear for their safety.
Determined to put an end to this menace, the Honorable Member has pledged full cooperation with the Commissioner of Police to enhance surveillance and security in the affected areas. Plans are already in motion to deploy law enforcement officers to monitor the routes, particularly at night, with the goal of apprehending those responsible for these heinous crimes.
In a statement to the community, the lawmaker reassured residents of an unwavering commitment to justice and security. “We will not relent until every perpetrator is brought to book. The safety and well-being of our people remain our top priority, and all necessary measures will be taken to ensure their protection,” the Member affirmed.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant!
