FG and Borno State complete the final repatriation of 680 Nigerian refugees from Cameroon, marking the end of the Minawao camp return process.
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Borno State Government, has successfully completed the repatriation of Nigerian refugees from Cameroon, marking the end of a long-running humanitarian exercise.
The final batch of returnees arrived in Banki, a border town in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, with a total of 680 Nigerian refugees safely transported back home. The group consisted of 162 households who had been living at the Minawao refugee camp in northern Cameroon.
This latest arrival officially concludes the fourth and final phase of the repatriation programme, which was designed to facilitate the voluntary and dignified return of Nigerians displaced by years of insurgency in the North-East region.
Government officials explained that the exercise was carried out in line with international humanitarian standards, ensuring the safety, documentation, and welfare of the returnees throughout the process. Upon arrival in Banki, the refugees were received by relevant authorities and are expected to undergo profiling and reintegration support to help them resettle in their communities.
