In a strong gesture of appreciation, the legal team representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has praised Hon. Obi Aguocha, the lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, for his fearless and principled stance in the House of Representatives.
The legal representatives described Hon. Aguocha as a “consistent, courageous, and authentic Igbo voice” in Nigeria’s National Assembly. They commended him for speaking truth to power despite the political risks involved, especially in matters concerning Kanu’s deteriorating health and prolonged detention.

The lawyers further noted that Aguocha’s interventions in plenary reflect the conscience of the Igbo nation, lamenting that many leaders have chosen silence over conviction. They described his recent confrontation with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, as a “moment of truth” that captured the deep frustration of millions of Igbos seeking justice and fair treatment within Nigeria.
“While many have chosen to remain silent for political survival, Hon. Aguocha has remained steadfast in defending the rights and dignity of his people,” the statement read. “His boldness gives renewed hope that the Igbo voice will not be silenced.”
In his response, Hon. Obi Aguocha reaffirmed his dedication to justice, national healing, and peaceful coexistence. He emphasized that his advocacy for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release is not about politics but about doing what is morally right.
“I am only fulfilling my duty as a representative of the people,” Aguocha said. “My commitment is to truth, fairness, and unity built on justice. I will continue to advocate for lawful and peaceful resolutions that promote national reconciliation and equity.”
The legal team concluded by urging other Igbo political leaders to emulate Aguocha’s courage and sincerity, noting that only through collective, principled leadership can the South East reclaim its rightful place in the Nigerian federation.
