Ikwuano Lawmaker Nkem Uba Ebilah Distributes 10,000 Free Exercise Books to Schools in Oboro Ward 2
Rt. Hon. Nkem Uba Ebilah, member of the Ikwuano 7th Assembly representing Oboro Ward 2, has announced the distribution of 10,000 customized exercise books to students across schools in the ward as part of activities marking his first year in office.
In a special public announcement, the lawmaker revealed that the initiative is aimed at supporting education and encouraging school attendance among children in Oboro Ward 2, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to Ebilah, the project began in January 2025 when he commissioned a printing company to produce 5,000 customized 40-leaf exercise books under the theme “Raising Destinies Through Education in Oboro 2, Ikwuano LGA.” Each batch of 1,000 copies reportedly cost over ₦300,000, including delivery.
However, the initiative has now been expanded. The councilor disclosed that the number of exercise books has been upgraded to 10,000 copies, which were delivered on March 5, 2026. The books will be distributed free of charge to pupils and students in all 17 public primary and secondary schools as well as private schools in Oboro Ward 2.
The distribution forms part of activities marking his one year in office and also serves as a way to celebrate his upcoming birthday on March 27, 2026.

Ebilah explained that the initiative aligns with the education drive of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, particularly the campaign encouraging children to return to school and discouraging street hawking during school hours.
He noted that the exercise books also feature images and information about key leaders in the state and constituency, enabling students to identify their elected representatives while being inspired to pursue education and leadership.
The lawmaker encouraged students to take their studies seriously and emulate successful leaders who have risen through education, emphasizing that education remains the foundation for personal and societal development.
He therefore dare the children and students to be like all identified in the exercise books Especially HE. Dr Alex Otti and to emulate his good governance potentials and his love for Abia, as he is seen to be sacrificing all for Abia to be the better state because our governor among others are all products of Education including the quality of commissioners serving in this administration of Dr Alex Otti OFR.
Since assuming office in November 2024 as the duly elected councilor for Oboro Ward 2, Ebilah said he has remained committed to grassroots development, human capital growth, and responsive leadership for his constituents.
As part of the broader educational support program, he also disclosed plans through Hon. Nkem Uba’s Foundation to engage the Student Union Government of Michael Okpara Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU). The initiative aims to assist about 350 to 400 returning students by paying their Student Union Government (SUG) fees to enable them complete clearance and register for courses ahead of upcoming examinations.
The support, according to him, will benefit both indigene and non-indigene students of the university.
Ebilah expressed appreciation to Governor Alex Otti for prioritizing education and good governance in Abia State. He also acknowledged the contributions of other leaders supporting development in the area, including the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, and the Abia State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu.
He assured residents of Oboro Ward 2 that the current administration remains committed to ensuring that every community in Abia State benefits from ongoing development efforts.
