INEC has dismissed reports claiming it released a 2027 election timetable, warning Nigerians to ignore fake news and rely only on official channels.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a firm warning to the public over a misleading report circulating online that falsely claims the electoral body has released a timetable for the 2027 General Elections.

According to the Commission, the viral article titled “BREAKING: INEC Releases Timetable for 2027 General Elections” is completely untrue and should be ignored. INEC clarified that it has not announced any official schedule, dates, or sequence of activities related to the 2027 polls.

The electoral umpire stressed that all information contained in the fake publication, including proposed election dates, campaign timelines, and party primary schedules, is purely speculative and has no connection to INEC’s plans or decisions. The Commission described the document as fabricated and lacking any official backing.

INEC advised Nigerians, political parties, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to rely solely on its verified communication platforms for accurate updates. These include the Commission’s official website, its verified social media handles on X, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as formal press statements and bulletins.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and public trust, INEC assured citizens that all legitimate announcements concerning the 2027 General Elections will be made through appropriate channels at the right time.
