Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on residents of Aba to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR), warning that voter apathy could reverse the progress currently being made in the state.
Speaking during a church service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Abayi Ariaria, Aba, the governor expressed concern over the consistently low voter turnout from Aba during past elections. According to him, the number of votes recorded from the commercial city does not align with its large adult population.
Governor Otti stressed that voter registration and participation remain critical to sustaining good governance and preventing a return to what he described as an era of poor leadership. He urged residents who are yet to register to do so immediately and encouraged them to mobilise their families, friends, and neighbours to take part in the electoral process.
The governor noted that voting is the only democratic tool citizens have to safeguard positive change, warning that choosing not to vote is indirectly empowering the wrong leaders.
He emphasised that without registering, eligible voters automatically forfeit their right to participate in shaping the future of the state. According to him, active civic engagement through voting is the surest way to protect Abia from sliding backwards.

Governor Otti’s message reinforces the importance of civic responsibility, particularly in a city as influential as Aba, as the state prepares for future elections.
