The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a major policy change set to take effect from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration exercise.
According to the examination body, all candidates registering for the 2026 UTME will now be required to declare their current admission status. This means that applicants must indicate whether they are already enrolled in any tertiary institution universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education before completing their registration.
JAMB explained that this new directive aims to promote transparency, eliminate multiple admissions, and maintain an accurate record of students currently studying in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The Board emphasized that the move is also part of ongoing efforts to sanitize the nation’s education system and ensure proper data management across all institutions.

Candidates who fail to disclose their true admission status during registration may face sanctions, including possible disqualification from the examination or cancellation of their results.
The Board further urged all prospective UTME candidates to ensure that the information they provide during registration is accurate and verifiable, as JAMB will be working closely with institutions to validate submitted data.
This development marks a significant step in JAMB’s commitment to maintaining integrity and accountability in the nation’s admission process.
