The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has raised serious concerns over the state of justice in Nigeria, warning that it is increasingly being treated as a commodity accessible only to the wealthy.
Speaking on the nation’s judicial system, the Sultan lamented that justice is no longer equally available to all citizens. According to him, the poor continue to suffer injustice, while the rich often evade accountability.
“Today, justice is increasingly becoming a purchasable commodity, and the poor are becoming victims of this kind of justice, while the rich commit all manner of crime and walk the streets scot-free,” the Sultan said.

The Sultan emphasized that a nation cannot thrive where the legal system favors the powerful over the weak. He called on leaders, policymakers, and judicial officers to restore credibility, fairness, and transparency to the justice system.
His remarks have sparked conversations among Nigerians about the need for reforms that ensure equal access to justice and end the culture of impunity.
