Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has approved the renaming of the Centre for Qur’anic Science at Kaduna State University (KASU) in honor of the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi. The academic institution will now be known as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Centre of Excellence for Qur’anic Sciences and Memorisation.
The governor announced the decision during the Mawlid Nabiyy (Maulid) celebration organized by Fityanul Islam in Zaria, Kaduna State. The development was later confirmed in an official statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Ibraheem Musa.
According to the statement, the renaming fulfills a commitment Governor Sani made during a condolence visit to the Bauchi residence of the late scholar’s family on December 15, 2025, shortly after his passing. The governor had pledged to immortalize Sheikh Dahiru’s immense contributions to Islamic education, moral leadership, and peaceful coexistence.
Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a highly respected leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order, passed away on November 26/27, 2025, at the age of 98 after a prolonged illness. His death triggered nationwide tributes and mourning, reflecting his far-reaching influence beyond Bauchi State. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also honored the cleric by renaming the Federal University of Health Sciences in Azare as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi University of Health Sciences.
Governor Sani noted that although Sheikh Dahiru hailed from Bauchi State, his teachings and impact resonated deeply across Nigeria, including Kaduna State, where he played a significant role in promoting unity, tolerance, and religious harmony.
At the Maulid celebration, the governor further praised Fityanul Islam for its consistent efforts in peacebuilding and fostering social cohesion. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to inclusive, people-focused governance aimed at ensuring no segment of society is left behind.
