Labour Party debunks reports of NEC decision removing Nenadi Usman, calling the claims false and misleading.
The Labour Party Nigeria has dismissed widespread reports alleging that its National Executive Council (NEC) convened to remove its caretaker chairman, Nenadi Usman, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In an official press statement released on March 17, 2026, the party clarified that no such NEC meeting took place and no decision was made to dissolve the caretaker committee led by Usman. The leadership emphasized that the circulating reports are fabrications aimed at creating confusion and internal tension within the party.
According to the statement, the so-called “NEC Forum” referenced in the reports is not recognized within the party’s constitutional framework. As a result, any decisions allegedly made by such a body should be disregarded entirely.
The party further accused unnamed actors of attempting to destabilize its structure through misinformation. It warned members, supporters, and the general public not to fall for what it described as a deliberate effort to undermine its ongoing repositioning as a credible political force.
Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, due process, and the rule of law, the party assured stakeholders that all legitimate decisions would always be communicated through its recognized constitutional organs.
The statement, signed by Darlington Nwokocha, Interim National Secretary of the party, urged members to remain calm and focused, ignoring what it termed “cheap propaganda.”
