Lagos sets medical history with West Africa’s first robotic gynaecological surgery, offering precision, faster recovery, and preserved fertility.
Lagos has set a new benchmark in healthcare with West Africa’s first-ever robotic gynaecological surgery, performed at the Lagos Prostate Clinic. The procedure successfully removed ovarian tumours from a 30-year-old woman, offering a faster, safer, and more precise alternative to traditional surgery.
Led by Prof. Kingsley Ekwueme, alongside experts Prof. Yusuf Oshodi and Dr. Olaolu Alalade, the surgery highlighted the power of robotic technology: smaller incisions, minimal blood loss, preserved fertility, and rapid recovery. Remarkably, the patient was eating within hours and headed home the same day, ready to resume normal life soon after.
