Residents of the Oremeji community in Shasha, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State were thrown into fear and confusion on Sunday, November 9, after an off-duty Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer was stabbed during a heated confrontation with local youths.

According to community sources, the incident began as a minor dispute over a stray football. The ball reportedly hit the officer, prompting him to seize it and deflate it with a knife. Witnesses said he also assaulted one of the boys involved in the game, escalating tensions in the area.

The situation quickly spiraled into violence when some youths attacked the officer in retaliation, stabbing him before fleeing. He was later rushed to a medical facility where he received treatment and survived the attack.

However, the clash triggered a wave of reprisals. Hours later, armed Air Force personnel from a nearby base stormed the Oremeji area in a retaliatory operation. Residents reported that the officers assaulted people, damaged property, and fired tear gas canisters, forcing many to flee their homes.

The disturbance continued until Tuesday, November 12, when police authorities intervened to mediate peace talks between community representatives and the military. Security agencies have since intensified surveillance in the area to prevent further violence.

The incident has renewed public concerns about rising street violence, strained civil–military relations, and the growing insecurity affecting many neighborhoods across Lagos, Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub.
