Governor Makinde criticizes Works Minister Umahi for lacking transparency over the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project cost.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has openly criticized the Minister of Works, David Umahi, over the lack of clarity surrounding the cost of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
In a viral video making rounds on Friday, Governor Makinde questioned why the Minister appeared to be “dancing around the cost” of the massive infrastructure project, which has sparked widespread public debate.

Makinde emphasized the importance of transparency in public spending, especially on projects funded by taxpayers. He stated that Nigerians deserve a clear and detailed breakdown of how government funds are utilized, particularly on projects of such national significance.

“The people have a right to know what their money is being spent on,” Makinde asserted, urging the Federal Government to come clean about the actual cost and execution plan for the coastal highway.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, one of the most ambitious road projects in Nigeria’s history, has faced criticism over its budget estimates and implementation procedures. Makinde’s comments add to the growing list of voices demanding accountability and openness from the Ministry of Works.
